Pelion Seasons and Weather

April, May and early June are generally warm with sunshine for weeks on end and temperatures of 25-30 degrees. The villages tend to be quieter and you will often find you have the taverna, beach or bar to yourself. The roads and car parks are practically empty. The mountain is covered with wild flowers and is a beautiful paradise.
From mid June to late September (and often lasting well into October) is the Pelion Summer and temperatures are generally 29 - 35 degrees and sunny every day. Temperatures can exceed 40 degrees and cause occasional spectacular thunderstorms which come flashing in over the sea at night.
From 15th July to the end of August the area is visited by, primarily, Greek tourists from the Islands, Thessaloniki, Volos and Athens and there is a gradual increase in the hubbub and buzz all along the coast. Parking in the main streets of the beach side villages becomes more difficult but is still possible and restaurants are busier but there are no queues.
In January and February there is always heavy snow fall on the mountain often five and more meters deep. Bright crisp and warm days are common and night temperatures rarely fall below 5 degrees. There are very few roads in Pelion and the main arteries, including the road between the ski-centre at Hania and the villa, are kept clear by snow ploughs.
In March, November and December you will have many days at temperatures of 18-23 degrees and sometimes two week periods in these months which are very warm.
Because of the mountain, the weather in Pelion has an unusually localised impact - it can be cool and cloudy in one village but within a half hour's drive another village can be hot and sunny. There are many pretty villages and lovely beaches on both sides of the mountain and all along the southern peninsula of Pelion which sits between the Aegean on one side and the Pagasetic Gulf on the other. If you wake up to a cloudy day, drive half an hour and you will usually find the sun all day!
